Task 6  3D Architectural Drawing

Next-to-do on the drawing list is some rapid drawing systems to sketch ideas for architectural projects..

Instead of drawing with all paralines we can draw in what is known as perspective. It is a more realistic view of how things appear in real life - in essence the main feature is that horizontal lines converge as they recede from our view point. Have a look at the photo of the building below - you can clearly see how the sides of the building appear to vanish to a point on the horizon called funnily enough the vanishing point. It's not that things magically disappear at this point- it's just a point on the horizon where the lines appear to travel to. There are two perspective systems that we use: 1-point perspective and 2-point perspective.

SHEET 6A   Basic 2 Point Perspective

Using a ruler and a pencil complete this worksheet to consolidate your understanding of the basic techniques of a 2-point perspective drawing.

SHEET 6B   Marker drawing of a building

Using techniques shown sketch an idea for a simple block building with some basic features such as windows and grounding elements.

Add some surface textures and shadow.

One point perspective drawing is often used to show interiors of buildings. However, you can see by the graphic convergence of lines in this photo how the term vanishong point and horizon line were named.
